Salon's Amanda Marcotte reports that centering campuses as the true sites for free speech wars plays into "right-wing hoaxes and scare tactics" and misses the "genuine, systematic threat to free speech." The immensely wealth mobilize their vast resources to produce "frivolous" lawsuits as scare tactics to inflict as much damage as possible on their dissenters, targeting activists, journalists, and sexual violence victims in particular.


Protect the Protest is a newly formed coalition of organizations, including the ACLU, Greenpeace, and Human Rights Watch, among others, united to fight SLAPP lawsuits: strategic lawsuits against public participation. The coalition's unified actions respond to individual cases and seek to mobilize for federal anti-SLAPP laws.
